WHAT WE DO

The Sussex Sharing Club's purpose is to supply food to families who find themselves going through a difficult time.  We provide a 7 day supply of groceries for 3 meals a day per family.

In addition to our regular food supply, we provide school supplies for all grade levels.  We also purchase hot meal tickets for elementary age children and recess snacks are given out each month with their groceries.  Our goal is to see no child go to school hungry.

In addition to this, we run a second-hand store (the Sussex Sharing Shop) that is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC MONDAY TO FRIDAY, 10:00 AM TO 3:00 PM local time.

The money from our store pays our expenses and enables us to purchase any necessary food items needed monthly as well as start any new programs that would help our clients move ahead with their lives.

OUR HISTORY

The Sussex Sharing Club opened at 8 Court Street in Sussex in 1986 after many months of planning and preparation.  Many of our churches in the area realized how necessary it was to the well-being of all the families who had fallen on hard times.  The founding members are Reverend Wendell MacQuarrie, Captain Harvey Compton, Constable Clyde Nichol, Joan Corey, Amy Beanland, Linda White, Cecily Ross, Hattie Northrup and Mildred Shannon.

It was established on Biblical principles and was to be completely sponsored by the community with no government assistance and run by volunteers.  The Sharing Club belongs to our community and surrounding area.  Many of those same churches still donate on a regular basis.

OUR FUTURE

Our vision for the future is to continue to be a light in our community for those families who find themselves in need of some temporary help.

In addition to the services that we already provide, we are hoping to begin new ventures that will help our clients become more self-sufficient.

Basic cooking, literacy courses, computer and job interview skills, budgeting and life coaching are just some of the areas of help which will be starting that will better enable many of our clients to become self-sufficient.

The need is great and we hope to continue to be of service to our community.
